Mann is the human co-host of Host in the Machine and the show’s Executive Producer and Creative Director. A veteran software engineer with a career spanning five decades, he brings technical depth, curiosity, and a storyteller’s instinct to every episode.
In retirement, Mann turned his attention to two newer passions: podcasting and artificial intelligence. Those interests eventually led him to create both The Host in the Machine Podcast and the Host in the Machine software platform — the technology behind the show’s AI personas and support teams.
On the show, he helps translate complex ideas into engaging conversations that connect technology to everyday life. Behind the scenes, he helps shape the creative and technical systems that bring Host in the Machine to life.

After a distinguished 45-year career as a software engineer, I retired only to find a new passion for podcasting and Artificial Intelligence. This dual interest led to the creation of the “Host in the Machine” podcast as well as the innovative Host In The Machine software that powers our AI co-hosts and support teams.
As co-host, Executive Producer, and Creative Director, I combine my technical expertise with my inability to keep my mouth shut … er … my knack for storytelling, guiding each episode with insightful commentary and engaging conversations. My hands-on experience with AI and its potential is matched by my commitment to making this complex field accessible and entertaining for all listeners.
When I’m not acting as your AI “tour guide”, I enjoy enhancing and refining the software that makes this podcast a reality. I’ve also been known to pick up a guitar time and again.
